Help Close the $25,000 Funding Gap from NEA Grant Termination
Funding for Performances, Community Workshops by Digital Arts Innovators of Groupwork Lost

Torn Space Theater's funding from the National Endowment for the Arts has been terminated.
On May 2, 2025 we received an email from the N.E.A stating that “The N.E.A. is updating its grantmaking policy priorities to focus funding on projects that reflect the nation’s rich artistic heritage and creativity as prioritized by the president. Consequently, we are terminating awards that fall outside these new priorities.”
Funding was to support a collaborative project with Buffalo-based digital artist collective Groupwork several years in the making. The project facilitates greater exposure of arts and digital technologies, provides a pipeline for artists working within this field, provides WNY audiences the opportunity to experience cutting edge work by local and national artists within this field and provides training and experimentation within the field of arts and technology.
The sudden loss of funding presents a significant challenge, but we will continue on with the work. We are trying to raise $25,000 by the end of June to ensure the full execution of this project series according to its proposed scope. These complex partnerships take years of planning and coordination- help ensure the continuation of this important work with a gift today.
Help us reach our fundraising goal and support vital innovative arts in Western New York.
